Impressive at the World Cup

One player that has impressed me a lot so far this World Cup is Tyler Adams. Adams is a holding midfielder from New York who shows passion and real grit on the field. He has started both games for the United States and has made some vital tackles. He is captaining a young United States squad at just 23 years old and is proving to be one of the best players in his position.

Start of his Career

Tyler started his career off at Red Bulls academy and played for the under-13, under-14, and under-16 until going professional. In 2015, Adams was signed to New York Red Bulls II which is the senior reserves squad. He impressed everyone and was eventually called up for the first team later that same year. He became a regular starter for the squad and solidified his spot even at such a young age.

RB Leipzig

After the 2017/18 season, Adams was scouted and signed by Red Bull Leipzig in Germany. The manager at the time was American Jesse Marsch who helped Adams comfortably fit in the squad. He made a great first impression for the team and did well his first season. The next 19/20 season he unfortunately had a groin injury which kept him sidelined for the first half of the season. He ended up coming back even stronger and scored his first goal for the team. This goal was the winning goal in the Champions League against Atletico Madrid which makes it all the more impressive.

Leeds United

Jesse Marsch who brought him in at Leipzig had gone to Leeds United in England. Marsch decided his first signing as a manager for his new club would be Tyler Adams. Adams was bought by Leeds United for a fee around $20 million on July 6, 2022. This move to the Premier League has proven greatly for Adams and he has flourished at Leeds. Although the team hasn’t been amazing, Adams has helped them crawl out of the relegation zone.

Conclusion

Adams is now starting and captaining at the World Cup which comes with a lot of responsibility. For a 23 year old it can become too much but Adams is already so mature and experienced that he is able to keep his calm on the biggest stages. This is a player that the United States can depend on now and in future. I am very hyped to see how our U.S team forms with all this young generational talent.
